Spink County Museum

Located at 3rd Street E. & 8th Avenue E. south of the Spink County Courthouse
Open Thur - Sun, 10:00 am - 4:00 pm, June 1st to September 1st or by appointment. (605-472-0758)

Built with donations and dedicated June 25, 1960, the museum strives to preserve Spink County history.  The Deiter School is located to the south.  It was relocated from its original spot three miles east of Redfield and approximately 2 miles south of Highway 212.  Sometime after consolidation in the 1950s, the building was moved to Fisher Grove serving as an example of the rural schools that once dotted the prairies.  Expansion of the camping site necessitated moving the building to Redfield to serve as part of the Spink County Museum.

Staff are on hand to relay the “stories” of the people whose pictures and belongings are on display.  Exhibits include notable and early pioneers Peter Norbeck and Charles Nicholson along with a variety of musical instruments, farm equipment, armed service uniforms, a barrage of early Spink County towns, and the famous Hindersman cabinets crafted with secret drawers.
