First Settlement-Stennett Junction

Originally named Stennett Junction, the first settlement of Redfield was founded in the autumn of 1878 and named after a Northwestern Railroad official. Later, the name was changed to Redfield after J.B. Redfield, another Northwestern Railroad official.

Redfield College 1885-1932

Redfield College was begun in 1885 by the pastor and congregation of the German Evangelical Congregational Church. It continued until 1932 when it merged with Yankton College.
