Pheasant Capital of the World®

In June 1908, three pair of Chinese Ringneck Pheasants, purchased from Grants Pass,OR Grove, were released in Hagman’s Grove, north of Redfield along Hwy 281. This was the first successful pheasant stocking in SD leading to the first one-day pheasant season authorized for October 30, 1919. Hunters still flock to Redfield to bag their limit. Redfield has the distinction of being registered as the  “ Pheasant Capital of the World”®
